Animal Ears Lab

 Summarize
The purpose of this lab is to show how large eared animal rely on their ears to avoid predators and rely on theirs ears to find prey, so many of the animals ears swivel in different directions to pick on prey coming or predators.
What are we testing and how??
We were testing how far you could hear the pen click as you back up farther and farther back from the person clicking the pen, who was Mrs. Richardson that was checking the pen.

Answer Question from the box
Yes, it made differences because of the simple fact that the ears made us able to hear farther away as we backed up from the pen clicking, but it was also the conditions we had to. Like the wind blowing and people talking, like if the wind was in your favor then you could hear the pen clicking farther back then usually because the wind would carry the pen clicking making it louder. People talking also blocked out the pen clicking.

Ecology observation #3 4-8-11

Eco Tower Observation #3
I observed along with my fellow group members that: the guppies have completely decomposed and the body parts are in pieces floating in the water. The worm has turned a reddish, brown color and all the crickets are dead, so are all the worms. The snails are dead as well. The beans seem to be very well still, four out of the five of them are growing in their correct position. The other one is still growing but its bottom and roots are still out of the soil but the head is still find of buried in the soil, and they are all about 3 1/2 to 4 inches tall. Algae is no longer staying up: they are floating on the waters surface. The water is really cloudy and the algae is slowly breaking down/ decomposing into little pieces. The grass has turned dark brown and looks very moist.

EcoTower Observation #1 March 25, 2011

3/25/11
We got our ecotowers and saw that: the bean plants are growing out the soil, but they are not growing straight up, but leaning kind of. We had a total of 12 worms and they all died except for one, one of our worms has started to decompose and has already started to turn a blueish green color. All of the guppies(5) were floating belly up, their eyes have turned white, and their bodies are breaking apart. The crickets(5) turned dark brown and they were on their backs. The water has become a little cloudy, bits and pieces of the fish are floating upside down at the surface of the water. All of our algae(5) has broken loose from the pebbles and has floated to the top and all of the tiny parts of the fish floating in the water seem to be very static.

EcoTower Sealing Day

 EcoTower
Why did we do this project?
We did this project to see the different cycles work together and see the cycles collaborate together to keep everything in balance and also see the cycle keep the abiotic and biotic in perspective.
Group members?
In my group it was Riley Lee Evens, Conner Atkinson, Brandon Harris, and me Marcus Henson
Group Members brought in?
Marcus (me)-Pebbles, Algae
Riley- Two 2-liter bottles, Algae
Conner- Duct tape, Soil, Worms, Algae
Brandon- Worms, Electric Tape, Algae
Borrowed the fish, snails, and crickets
 The Cycles?
In our ecotower, we worked with the Carbon, Nitrogen, and Water cycle
Plants and Animals?
In the ecotower, the animals we had were crickets, worms, five or more guppies, the plants we had were Algae, Grass, and beans
I Snuck a peek and saw?:(:(:(
That the others crickets we had put in their had died, so all together a total of seven crickets have died in our tower but in good news the fish were still living

Succession and Abiotic Factors

Communities change everyday, so does the factors (Abiotic) in that ecosystem. Abiotic factors include light, temperature, and moisture, they influence the amount and types of organisms that are able to survive and thrive in the succession stage. Biotic and Abiotic factors change everyday. The relationship between succession site and temperature is that shade, grass, or mud can affect temperature. The biotic factors that influence the surface temperature at the sites are different because it depends one the site. Like the black top had none because of the factor their is no abiotic or biotic factors. So depending on the site, depends on the abiotic or biotic factors their.
